42 Sporting Disciplines To Register With National Sports Authority

The government of Sierra Leone has replaced the old Sports Council Act with the new National Sports Authority act. In this case, all sporting disciplines should now register with the newly formed National Sports Authority (NSA).

The NSA Directors first held a meeting with representative of the various sports. At the meeting, they informed the various sports about the mandate of NSA and their roles.

The NSA, they said is there to oversee all sporting disciplines that are registered with them. They told them to adopt some of their acts in their constitutions.

To register with them, all the sports should first buy the registration form, fill them and present then back to NSA.

The criteria they set for a sport to fulfill to be a member was as follows: that each sport should have regional association and office in all the five regions, that they should also provide NASSIT receipt for all their employees, Police clearance to prove that they don’t have anyone with criminal record in their executive, to provide Bank account, office and email address and several more.

According to Eric Fomba the media officer of NSA, they are going to categorize the various sports after going through their application forms.

He went on that they will categorize them by grade. Some he said will be in grade A, B, C, and so on base on their output.

He confirmed that government has approved close to Le2bn budget for them to start their work. He said sports in grade A will earn more money than the others.

Fomba also stated that they are going to find other ways to find more money as government alone will not provide the funds needed to develop the various sports.

He emphasized that sports should present their calendar of activities to them earlier. All sports, he said should organize local competition nationwide before thinking of international competitions.

He confirmed that already 42 sports have bought application forms but not all has presented their filled form to them.
